SCDSB Update 10 – March 24, 2021

This update provides highlights of the Simcoe County District School Board (SCDSB) Board Meeting held Wednesday, March 24, 2021. Agendas and/or reports considered at this meeting are available at www.scdsb.on.ca

Report from the Student Trustees
Student Trustee McMahon provided an update on behalf of the student trustees. Student Trustee McMahon shared highlights from the Student Senate meeting, which took place virtually on Wednesday, March 24. Student Trustee McMahon shared that students received a presentation from Trustee Wilson regarding anti-Black racism and discrimination. 

Student Trustee McMahon introduced the incoming 2021-2022 Student Trustees.

Report from the Closed Session of the Board in Committee of the Whole
The Board ratified the following recommendation taken in the Closed Session meeting of the Committee of the Whole on Wednesday, March 24, 2021:

  1. That the Board approve the Joint Use and Cost Sharing Agreement with the Town of Wasaga Beach, as set out in Report No. CL-BF-D-1, New Wasaga Beach Elementary School Joint Use and Cost Sharing Agreement – Town of Wasaga Beach, dated March 3, 2021.

Reports/Updates from Staff

Dawn Stephens, Superintendent of Program 7-12 and Information Technology, provided an update with regards to voluntary asymptomatic testing clinics. Superintendent Stephens shared that 458 tests have been administered through SCDSB clinics resulting in zero positive cases of COVID-19. Superintendent Stephens noted that the SCDSB continues to meet with the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit to determine the location of testing clinics. 

Brian Jeffs, Superintendent of Business and Facility Services, provided an update regarding capital priorities. Superintendent Jeffs shared that the Ministry of Education launched the Capital Priorities program on Wednesday, March 24. Superintendent Jeffs noted that school boards may submit up to ten capital priorities to the Ministry of Education for consideration and that a focus will be placed on projects that address accommodation pressures and facilities in poor condition. Superintendent Jeffs shared that the deadline for submission of capital priorities is May 21, 2021.
