Winter Ball event to transport students with special needs to ‘enchanted forest’

On Jan. 30, students with special needs will visit the ‘enchanted forest’ at the fourth annual Winter Ball, hosted by the Bear Creek Life Skills department. In 2018, over 350 students attended the event, which this year features swag bags, lunch, prizes, a photo booth and of course, dancing!

The annual Winter Ball is an opportunity for students with special needs to celebrate their accomplishments, visit with their peers and create fun, new memories. The event promotes accessibility, inclusiveness, empathy and fun, in a safe, accepting environment.

Members of the Bear Creek Life Skills department begin planning the annual event months in advance, and countless volunteers dedicate themselves to making the day a special one for the students.

Bear Creek is located at 100 Red Oak Drive in Barrie. The Winter Ball event takes place from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

This initiative links directly to the SCDSB’s Strategic Priorities under the pillar of equity, diversity and inclusion.
