SCDSB Update 12 – May 26, 2021

This update provides highlights of the Simcoe County District School Board (SCDSB) Board Meeting held Wednesday, May 26, 2021. Agendas and/or reports considered at this meeting are available at www.scdsb.on.ca.

Report from the Student Trustees
Student Trustee Jafri provided highlights from the Student Senate meeting, which took place virtually. Student Trustee Jafri noted that the meeting was well attended, with 13 participants from across the board. Student Trustee Jafri shared that students participated in discussions regarding the impact of global issues on the lives of students as well as online learning and student well-being.

Report from the Closed Session of the Board in Committee of the Whole
The Board ratified the following recommendations taken in the Closed Session meeting of the Committee of the Whole on Wednesday, May 26, 2021:

  1. That the Board approve the lease renewal for 231 Bayview Drive, Unit L103, City of Barrie as set out in Report No. CL-BF-D-1, Lease Renewals - May 2021, dated May 5, 2021.

  6.  That the Board approve the appointment of Susan Sidlofsky as Supervisory Officer – Superintendent of Education K-12, effective August 1, 2021, according to the terms of a personal services contract between Susan Sidlofsky and the board, pending ministry approval, as set out in Report No. CL-B-2-a, Appointment of Supervisory Officers – Superintendents of Education K-12, dated May 26, 2021.

D-4-a Business and Facilities 
The Board approved the following motions:

  1. That the Board approve the revisions to Policy 2230 – General Purchasing, as set out in APPENDIX C of Report No. BF-D-1, Revisions to Policy 2230 – General Purchasing, dated May 5, 2021.
  2. That the Board approve the revisions to Policy 2325 – Environmental Policy, as set out in APPENDIX C of Report No. BF-D-2, Revisions to Policy 2325 – Environmental Policy, dated May 5, 2021.
  3. That the Board approve the amendments to Trust Declarations, as set out in APPENDIX A of Report No. BF-D-3, Amendments to Trust Declarations for Scholarship and Trust Funds, dated May 5, 2021.

Reports/Update from Staff
Dawn Stephens, Superintendent of Program 7-12 and Information Technology, provided an update regarding vaccinations for youth aged 12 to 17. Superintendent Stephens shared that approximately 9,000 youth in the region have booked appointments since the provincial booking system opened on May 21. Superintendent Stephens noted that mass vaccination clinics will be offered to youth in Simcoe County communities, including pop-up clinics in under-serviced communities such as Angus and Alcona. 

John Dance, Associate Director and Superintendent of Human Resource Services, provided an update regarding the participation rates for the first SCDSB Student Census. Associate Director Dance noted that over 15,000 responses were collected from parents/guardians of students in Kindergarten to Grade 6 and over 13,000 responses were collected from students in Grade 7 to 12. Associate Director Dance shared that the Student Census for adult learners has been distributed and will be open until June 30, 2021.
