High school students discuss ocean sustainability, protecting a free media and peace protection at Model UN

The Simcoe County District School Board (SCDSB)’s Model United Nations event will be held on April 17. It has been taking place for 33 years, and this year will bring together more than 130 secondary school students from nine schools, providing students an opportunity to experience firsthand how the global community comes together.

Each student will assume the role of a delegate, representing a different country from one of five regions around the world. It is the delegate’s responsibility to represent and debate the interests, beliefs and ideals of their respective country when addressing the issues of ocean sustainability, protecting a free media and peace protection.

The event is being hosted by Banting Memorial High School and runs from 8 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. at the SCDSB Education Centre, located at 1170 Highway 26 in Midhurst.

This initiative links directly to the SCDSB’s Strategic Priorities under the pillar of excellence in teaching and learning.
