Labour Updates

In Ontario, we have a two-tier collective bargaining process for school boards and their staff. It involves central (provincial) and local bargaining processes for staff groups, including teachers and support staff.

In August 2022, provincial and local contracts for all education workers in the province of Ontario expired. In the SCDSB, this means that all our unionized groups are at different stages of contract negotiations at the provincial and local level.

As a board, we respect all our staff members and value their work. We remain committed to reaching fair, negotiated agreements with all our employee groups.

On Dec. 23, 2022, the central labour agreement between the provincial branch of the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE), the Ontario Public School Boards' Association (OPSBA) and the Ontario government was officially ratified by all parties.

On Feb. 1, 2023, the SCDSB ratified the collective agreement reached with CUPE and its local 1310 for the term of Sept. 1, 2022, to Aug. 31, 2026.
