In 2023, the Simcoe County District School Board (SCDSB) is hosting virtual special education outreach sessions to assist parents/guardians in learning more about programs, supports and ways that we work together to support students with special education needs. 

IEPs and school-based assessments – information for parents/guardians
Jan. 12
6:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Learn more about Individual Education Plans (IEP) and school-based assessments that are used in SCDSB schools. This virtual presentation will include opportunities for participants to share their questions regarding IEPs and school-based assessments.

Supporting students with autism spectrum disorder
Feb. 14
6:30 to 7:30 p.m.

In this virtual session, SCDSB staff will discuss the supports available in SCDSB schools and the community for students with autism spectrum disorder (ASD).

Supporting students as they transition into school, from one school to another, and from school upon graduation
April 20
6:30 to 7:30 p.m.

This virtual session will include SCDSB staff and community partners that work to support early years transitions of students with special education needs into Kindergarten. We will also look at how we work to successfully transition students from Grade 8 to Grade 9 and the supports put in place to successfully transition students from secondary school, with information about the Ontario Disabilities Support Program (ODSP).

Working with families to create safe and supportive environments for children who have experienced trauma
May 9
6:30 to 7:30 p.m.

This virtual session will include supports available to students and families impacted by trauma, including the PACE model and how to build safe and supportive environments within the school and at home. Our session will include SCDSB special education and mental health and well-being staff, who will discuss trauma-informed practices.
