New schools

Something exciting is always happening at the Simcoe County District School Board (SCDSB)! There are always a variety of projects on the go, whether we're building new schools, renovating older schools, or completing additions on existing buildings.

Alcona elementary school

In May 2024, the Ministry of Education announced capital funding for a new elementary school in Alcona. This elementary school is expected to include 619 pupil places. The school will be located at 1207 Innisfil Beach Road. 

Angus elementary school

In May 2024, the Ministry of Education announced capital funding for a new elementary school in Angus. This elementary school is expected to include 593 pupil places. The school will be located at 152 Greenwood Drive.

Banting Memorial High School replacement school

In January 2022 the Ministry of Education approved a capital funding request for a 1,288 pupil place replacement school for Banting Memorial High School. The replacement school for Banting Memorial HS was included as a capital priority due to facility condition at the existing school and continued growth within the community. The total funding approved for the replacement school, which will include a child care centre, is $41.4M. The board is currently in the process of finalizing the location of the replacement school and has begun preliminary studies.

Barrie southeast elementary school

In May 2024, the Ministry of Education announced capital funding for a new elementary school in Barrie. This elementary school is expected to include 662 pupil places.

Killarney Beach PS addition

In February 2022 the Ministry of Education approved a capital funding request for an addition at Killarney Beach Public School. The announcement included an addition of 184 new elementary student spaces, resulting in a 527 pupil place school. It is currently in the design phase.

Lake Simcoe PS addition

In October 2020 the Ministry of Education approved a capital funding request for an addition at Lake Simcoe Public School. The announcement included an addition of 190 new elementary student spaces, resulting in a 602 pupil place school, along with two new child care rooms. The estimated construction value is $5.4M. The addition of classrooms at Lake Simcoe Public School is complete and construction is underway on the addition of two child care spaces. 

Nantyr Shores SS addition

In May 2024, the Ministry of Education announced capital funding for an addition of 414 student spaces to Nantyr Shores SS.

Orillia elementary school

In December 2021 the Ministry of Education approved a capital funding request for a new elementary school in Orillia. The new school is being built to balance enrolment in the western part of Orillia with the rural schools that surround it, and to accommodate growth occurring in Orillia. Funding for the new elementary school is approximately $9M. The board has acquired property for the new school and preliminary design work has begun.

Oro-Medonte elementary school

In March 2018 the Ministry of Education approved a capital funding request for a new elementary school in Oro-Medonte. This elementary school is expected to include 357 pupil places, with a construction value of approximately $9M. The new school will help address enrolment pressures in the area.

This project is being completed in partnership with the Township of Oro-Medonte and will contain enhanced gymnasium space along with purpose-built space for the township. The contract has been awarded and construction is proceeding. The new Oro-Medonte elementary school is projected to open in Fall 2025.

Shanty Bay replacement school

In July 2020 the Ministry of Education approved a capital funding request for a replacement school for the existing Shanty Bay Public School. The new Shanty Bay elementary school has a construction value of approximately $5.9M and includes 190 pupil places. This is funding for the replacement of the current school, which has been deemed prohibitive to repair. Study and design work has begun, and the board is working with the Ministry to determine next steps.
