Summer Learning

The Simcoe County District School Board (SCDSB) continues to support student achievement and well-being throughout the summer months by providing a range of elementary summer learning programs. This summer, the SCDSB is offering programs for students in Grades 1-8 that will focus on foundational reading and math skills, multilingual learners (ML), students who require additional supports with self-regulation, and students with learning disabilities who use assistive technology at school. The programs will be delivered through a virtual synchronous learning format (Google Classroom) and in person at West Bayfield Elementary School in Barrie, Regent Park Public School in Orillia, and Worsley Elementary School in Wasaga Beach. The programs will run from July 7 to 25 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. daily.

Foundational skills for literacy and numeracy (English/French Immersion)

This math and reading program is a three-week program (July 7-25), offered in person at West Bayfield ES, Regent Park PS, and Worsley ES, as well as virtually for students who will have completed Grade 1, 2, or 3 in June 2025.

This program runs daily from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and is intended to strengthen students’ foundational reading and math skills. Students will participate in direct instruction in small groups based on their grade and math and reading levels. This program is also available for students in the French Immersion program.

This math and reading program is a three-week program (July 7-25), offered in person at West Bayfield ES, Regent Park PS, and Worsley ES, as well as virtually for students who will have completed Grade 4,5,6, or 7 in June 2025.

This program runs daily from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and is intended to strengthen students’ foundational reading and math skills. Students will participate in direct instruction in small groups based on their grade and math and reading levels.

Enhance Your English (EYE) program (ML)

The EYE Program is a three-week program (July 7-25), ), offered in person at West Bayfield ES, Regent Park PS, and Worsley ES, as well as virtually for students who will have completed Grade 4, 5, 6, 7, or 8 in June 2025, and are currently achieving Steps 1, 2, or 3 on the Steps to English Proficiency (STEP) assessment.

This program runs daily from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m and will use a variety of evidenced-based direct instruction strategies to support foundational language development skills of MLs. This program will also focus on foundational numeracy skills for part of the day.

Positive Peer Interactions Program, Grades 1-3

The Positive Peer Interactions Program is a three-week program (July 7-25), offered in person at West Bayfield ES, Regent Park PS, and Worsley ES, for students with an Individual Education Plan (IEP) with a self-regulation page and who would benefit from additional supports in self-regulation and belonging.

This program runs daily from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m and will focus on supporting students to develop skills and strategies that will support social, emotional, and academic success.

SEA Program, Grades 4-8

The Special Equipment Amount (SEA) Program is a three-week program (July 7-25), offered in person at West Bayfield ES, Regent Park PS, and Worsley ES, for students with an IEP who have existing and/or new SEA technology and who will have completed Grade 4, 5, 6, 7, or 8 in June 2024.

This program runs daily from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and will focus on building strong reading and mathematics skills while using assistive technology tools to support unique learning experiences.

Applications will be accepted from Monday, April 28 until Friday, May 16. Please note that applications to the program are not an automatic guarantee of acceptance into the program.
