During the 2024-25 school year, the Simcoe County District School Board (SCDSB) will be hosting virtual special education information sessions to assist parents/guardians in learning more about programs, supports and ways that we work together to support students with special education needs.
Participants are asked to register for each session using this form. Information to access the sessions will be shared via email with individuals who have pre-registered.
IEPs – information for parents/guardians
Oct. 22 at 6:30 p.m.
Learn more about Individual Education Plans (IEP) in SCDSB schools. This virtual presentation will include opportunities for participants to share their questions regarding IEPs and school-based assessments.

Transition planning
Jan. 21 at 6:30 p.m.
This virtual session will include SCDSB special education staff and community partners to explore the importance of collaborative planning for transitions, and discuss available resources and supports.
Breakout rooms will allow parents/guardians to select a transition stage.
1. Early years transition into school
2. Transition from elementary to secondary school and
3. Transitioning from secondary school to post-secondary, the workplace, or to community living.
Information about Developmental Services Ontario (DSO) will be shared and there will be opportunities to ask questions.
Reading strategies
March 4 at 6:30 p.m.
This virtual session will focus on foundational literacy, where we will provide valuable insights and practical tips on how schools and families can work together to support your child’s early reading development at home. Our session will include SCDSB Special Education and Literacy staff, who will share strategies, resources, and activities that you can easily incorporate into your daily routines to foster a love for reading and language in your home – in addition to the instruction and supports they receive at school.
Supporting students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
April 15 at 6:30 p.m.
In this virtual session, SCDSB staff will discuss the support available in SCDSB schools and the community for students with autism spectrum disorder (ASD).
