Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program (OYAP)
The Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program (OYAP) is a specialized program that enables students to earn credits towards their Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) by completing a cooperative education course with an employer in a trade eligible for apprenticeship.
To be eligible for OYAP, students must:
-
be fifteen years of age or older (there is no upper age limit)
-
have completed 14 credits towards their OSSD
-
be enrolled as a student in a secondary school or adult and continuing education program
To participate in OYAP, students and their parents/guardians should work with their cooperative education teacher to complete an OYAP Participant Application Form. As an OYAP participant, a student may, with a supportive employer, have the opportunity to become an apprentice with a registered training agreement while attending secondary school. Starting an apprenticeship in high school is the fastest, least expensive, thorough way of reaching certification in a chosen trade.
For more information on OYAP, please contact your local secondary school’s guidance or cooperative education department or visit the OYAP website.
