Wasaga Beach es naming

Help the SCDSB name the new Wasaga Beach public elementary school!
Posted on 03/08/2024

The Simcoe County District School Board (SCDSB) is excited to be opening a new elementary school in Wasaga Beach in the fall of 2024. The new elementary school is located at 42 Union Boulevard, Wasaga Beach. With the opening of a new school comes an exciting opportunity for the community to get involved in the naming process.

A school’s identity is important – it is a source of pride for the community and contributes to a positive and inspirational climate and school culture. This is something that can be felt when you walk into the school every day. The identity also influences the school’s image, including its branding, logo and mascot.

We look forward to engaging the community in the naming process as we continue to build the future of education in Simcoe County.

When sharing your name submissions, we encourage you to consider the environmental setting, the community’s geographic history and the diversity of the school community.

The Nottawasaga Valley Conservation Authority has provided some information related to the environmental context of the area. The school site is near provincially-significant wetlands that are part of the Jack’s Lake Complex, which supports a forest of silver maple trees and thicket swamps on the Nipissing Lagoon flats and the only sugar bush in the area. It borders on a stream called Frank’s Creek and the area is home to members of the Oak Savannah and Prairie species of wildlife.

To submit your name suggestion complete the submission form. The submission deadline is Friday, April 12.

The School Naming Committee will review all name submissions. The committee will include parents/guardians, students, SCDSB representatives, a member of the Wasaga Beach municipal council and a community member. Community members who are interested in joining the School Naming Committee should express their interest by completing the interest form no later than Friday, April 5.

The committee’s recommendations will be presented to the Board of Trustees for final decision at the Regular Meeting of the Board in June.

This initiative links directly to the SCDSB Strategic Priorities in the area of Community.
